Backup & Restore
Backup & Restore lets you export all your extension data to a file and import it later. This protects your data and makes it easy to transfer everything to a new device or browser.
Exporting a Backup
- Open the extension and go to Settings.
- Scroll to Backup & Restore.
- Click Export.
- A JSON file downloads to your device containing all your data.
What Is Included in a Backup
Your backup file contains:
- All patients (active and archived)
- Eval summaries for each patient
- Note history and previous note summaries
- Custom instructions (global automation, per-patient, and AI chat)
- Field preferences and other extension settings
Importing a Backup
- Open the extension and go to Settings.
- Scroll to Backup & Restore.
- Click Import.
- Select your previously exported JSON file.
- Your data is restored.
When to Back Up
You should export a backup:
- Before switching devices or browsers. Your extension data is stored locally and does not transfer automatically between browsers.
- Before making major changes to your patient list, custom instructions, or templates.
- Periodically as a general precaution against data loss. A weekly or monthly backup is a good habit.
- Before uninstalling or reinstalling the extension.
Important Notes
- Importing a backup replaces your current extension data. If you have made changes since your last export, those changes will be overwritten.
- Store your backup file somewhere safe, such as a cloud storage folder or external drive.
- Backup files do not contain any Protected Health Information sent to the AI. Patient data in the backup is the same data you entered into the extension.
