Internet & Offline Mode

SOAP Note Buddy requires an active internet connection to generate notes. There is no offline mode at this time.

Why Internet Is Required

Note generation is powered by AI running on secure Google Cloud servers. When you use Auto Fill or AI Note, your request is sent to these servers for processing and the response is returned to your browser. This round trip requires connectivity.

Features that require internet:

• Auto Fill — analyzing EMR fields and generating content
• AI Note — generating standalone clinical notes
• Voice recording — transcribing audio to text
• Cloud sync — keeping your data in sync across devices
• Account authentication — verifying your subscription

What Works Without Internet

Your locally stored data is always accessible:

• Viewing your patient list
• Reading eval summaries and note history
• Opening the extension popup

However, you cannot generate new content or sync data without a connection.

If You Lose Connection

If your internet drops while using the extension:

1. Save your daily summary text — it is stored locally and will not be lost.
2. Wait for your connection to restore.
3. Refresh the EMR page.
4. Try generating your note again.

If you are in an area with unreliable internet, consider writing your daily summary first (which is saved locally), then generating notes when you have a stable connection.

Security Benefit

Requiring an internet connection means AI processing happens on HIPAA-compliant cloud infrastructure rather than on uncontrolled local devices. This is a deliberate design choice that keeps the processing environment secure and auditable.
