Note Templates
Note templates control the structure and content of AI-generated notes. You can customize templates per discipline and note type to match your documentation standards.
Accessing the Template Editor
- Go to the AI Note tab in the extension.
- Select your discipline and note type.
- Click the gear icon next to the note type selector.
- The template editor opens, showing all sections for that note type.
What You Can Customize
Add or Remove Sections
Click Add Section to create a new section. Click the delete button on any existing section to remove it. You control exactly which sections appear in your generated notes.
Edit Section Instructions
Each section has an instruction field that tells the AI what to include. Edit these instructions to match your documentation preferences. For example, you might change the “Subjective” section instruction to always include pain level and patient-reported functional status.
Reorder Sections
Drag sections up or down to change their order. The generated note follows the order you set in the template.
Templates in the Voice App
Templates are also available in the Voice App at soapnotebuddy.com/voice. Changes made in either the extension or the Voice App sync automatically, so your templates stay consistent across devices.
Tips for Effective Templates
- Start with the default template and adjust from there rather than building from scratch.
- Keep section instructions specific. “Write 2-3 sentences about the patient’s response to treatment” produces more consistent results than “Response to treatment.”
- Create different templates for different note types. A daily note and a progress note typically need different sections and levels of detail.
- Review your templates periodically and update instructions based on what the AI is producing well and where it needs more guidance.
